character sidekick development

To come up with head/outfit combinations i made a bunch of 'paper dolls' before going over them a bit in photoshop .
it was helpful in getting different designs out .

character: sidekick development - face, mask, clothing, extras

trying out different mask designs, hairstyles, and clothing. and also the possibility of her having leg braces or hand/feet alterations as a result of being reconstructed into robotic form poorly. clothing/mask/etc combinations to come next

Character sidekick development

Decided initially to make the sidekick a little girl who was either a sibling etc to the hero character however figured that it would be more interesting to make her villain sidekick. she is a little girl originally from the planet earth who wound up on the villains planet. The villain adopted and changed parts of her to be robotic and help aid her. She is fast agile and can be a trickster and fool the hero at times leading him into traps etc.

Character: Sidekick Variations

To avoid creating a love interest out of the female sidekick i've looked into designing a child or sister, or an elderly mentor type person.

Character: Hero designs 2

Some variations of an initial design, of the hero character as a bulky guy who wears animal skins/fur, long hair, and in touch with nature as oppose to technology.

Character: Villain ideas 2

some more villain designs for the cyborg queen character based off of initial drawings. most designs include her having long medusa-like/ H. R Giger-esque cybernetic pipes for hair, with possibly vicious robotic snake-like creatures on the ends. they would probably hold some kind of fluid to keep her alive etc.

Character Outfits

Character design: Bonnie Reed Silhouettes

I decided to go for a slender frame for this character. it would make sense for her to have a slender frame as she is always active when working as a highwayman, and in the era that it is set in (1700's) a poor person would not have access to much food, plus the character is known for drinking.

I've made up a few silhouettes to figure out the characters pose and a rough idea of what the outfit might look like. In #1 and #3, i had it in my head that she'd be wearing a long coat. and a scarf to cover half her face.  in #2, i was thinking of her dressed in ruffles, a corset like top, and boots.

Gravedigger Character Design

My gravedigger character will appear only in a dream, so i wanted to make him a ghostlike character. I quite like design no.3 the most, i feel that this design has the most ghost-like and non-human look out of the 3.

Script to Screen: Character designs (features, hair)

I'm drawn towards a rounded face for my heroine character, as i'd like to give her more rounded and gentle features, i feel like giving her elongated features with jagged edges would make her seem evil, when i want to make her a relatively innocent character who has just gotten into a bad business. i feel like at the end if the story a rounded and softer look for her will help the audience to sympathise with her more.

so ive moved on to look at features for her - eyes, nose hair and lips. i havent done many nose and lips drawings as i feel that the face shape, hair and body is more important to look at for this project.

Script to Screen: Character Designs - Bonnie Reed

I've tried out different face shapes and body shapes. I had an idea of what the character would look like beforehand, but making sheets of drawings like this helps to open the mind up a bit.
