Sonic concept art

It's been a while since I've posted anything on blogger, although I have been practicing concept drawings during the summer which i'll upload soon. 

I've started on a  concept for a re-imagining of a sonic level as suggested and requested by a friend. It's been fun to have a go at something i wouldn't normally do. Below is a work in progress, I hope to finish it during the summer.

Chosen Structure

Here is the developed version of the floating building design, which i played around in photoshop with by adding some lighting and a brick pattern. Think i'll stick with this for my final design, and maybe add a background later on. 

Chosen Machine

I've chosen this machine out of the two; I thought that it had the most personality out of the four. The empty screen, long arms and legs I think make the overall design a little unsettling..I've tried to give the machine a skeleton - ribs, arms, legs and body. I would like to carry on working on this design through photoshop and develop the overall image by tidying it up, and including a background.  it looks like he belongs in a large robotic warehouse.

The design in the top left is a rough idea of what would be reflected off of its metal body. 

Life Forms

Here are some designs for lifeforms, i quite liked the bug designs. the spider/fly creature in the middle was my favourite, i decided to detail that one a little more. (below)

i carried on using pencil for this creature, and had a go at adjusting it in photoshop. 

Some Structures

Here are a few structure ideas, taken from the earlier sketches. I got a bit stuck on these, so they are a little rushed. I think ill try and develop the floating balloon structure.

Machines

I've done a few sketches of machines, developed from a few of the silhouettes. 

 I quite like design 1, i like the idea of long skeletal arms on it. I also like the idea of making it run on a rail. It kind of reminds me of robots from the game portal. 

 I quite liked the idea of the machine having a window like face. and generally giving it human characteristics. so i've given design no.3 arms and a human like torso, which now reminds me of half of a transformer. 

Over all i think design no.1 is my favourite so far, I think its the most striking out of the 4. So I might develop that one further

Summer Project

This is my first post for the year. I'm currently in the middle of working on the Summer Project. There seems to be a lot of freedom given with it, which was a little intimidating at first! but think i'm getting the hang of it. 

                                                                       

                                 

These are a few drawings for the project, taken from the objects on the sheets given as part of the project. Some are silhouettes and some are just rough sketches. So far i have roughly an even amount of life forms, structures and machines. Next i'll work on picking a few ideas and detailing them a bit.
